Aurora Borealis

They are called Aurora Borealis. I suppose everyone looks at the Northern Lights with their own sense of awe and wonder. I have to say the beauty diminishes the science in my eyes. It’s just two easy to think of all the wonderful reasons they are dancing before you. Ancient legends are full of  tales explaining why you are being showered with the most spectacular light show in the universe. You imagination will take wing fly. Science can wait.

The Northern Lights are the result of collisions between gaseous particles in the Earth’s atmosphere with charged particles released from the sun’s atmosphere. Variations in color are due to the type of gas particles that are colliding.
